On This Day

Facebook has this thing where they remind you what you posted "On This Day" a year ago, two years ago, etc. Today when I pulled up my Facebook I thought with a tender smile, this "On This Day" post from six years ago couldn't have been more apropos...

"The Lord's delays often seem long; some last a lifetime. But they are always calculated to bless."

This past week I've had the opportunity to attend a training certification program hosted by the world's largest talent development association. From the moment I discovered it, I knew this was something I really wanted to do for my own professional development and growth. I have thankfully been blessed with truly my favorite boss I've ever had, who because of his constant and generous support and encouragement, made sure it happened!

Because God is God, I feel like Providence also arranged things where it "just so happen" to be right next to general conference weekend with a site location half an hour south from my sister and her family. Needless to say, I had a spilling-over amount of tender mercies thrown into the mix.

What made me feel so tender about this timely post though, was what I saw throughout the course of my conference: just how much I have been blessed by the Lord's calculations of "delays."

Everything from my unique theater education training, to studying learning and teaching theories at a graduate level, to working in special needs classrooms, to elementary teaching, to professional opportunities in a completely different country with an entirely different culture, I saw how they all contributed to a breadth and depth of professional proficiency that even I myself was amazed by.

And it wasn't my proficiency that amazed me--not at all! It's the wisdom, the craft, the expertise, the attention to detail, and the patience the Orchestrator demonstrated in His "calculated delays" (evidenced in my proficiency).

I could have never known how perfectly He has done this.

I'm so humbled now that I do.

  1. I saw this type of orchestration a lot on my mission. Being in the exact place at the exact moment with the exact people to bring to pass God's purposes. It's cool to see that He does the same type of orchestrating in our individual lives.
